Looking for a way to manage all of your social media accounts in one place? MeetEdgar is a one stop solution that allows you to schedule out your social media for all the major social media networks using one tool.
Social media management can be a major time commitment so finding ways to streamline your process is essential. Today I want to share the 6 most powerful MeetEdgar features that will allow you to reduce the time you spend on scheduling out your social media while still allowing you to maintain an active social media presence.
First off, MeetEdgar is a social media scheduler that allows you to schedule out your social media content ahead of time so you don’t have to constantly be on each platform all the time.
MeetEdgar works with all the major social media platforms including:
- Facebook pages and groups
- LinkedIn profile and company pages
MeetEdgar is an effective social media solution that allows you to easily manage your social media content all from one dashboard.
Today, I want to tell you about 6 specific features that MeetEdgar has that can significantly reduce the amount of time you spend scheduling your social media content.
1. Category based scheduling
MeetEdgar uses category based scheduling. Each post you schedule out will be assigned to a category. By default MeetEdgar has 4 categories you can use including: General, My Blog Posts, Recommended Reads, and Promotions and Specials. With the full Edgar plan you can have unlimited categories for your content. The possibilities are endless. Other category ideas can include behind the scenes, inspirational quotes, how to/informational content, questions, and video.
In the image below you can see I created an additional category for my YouTube Videos. Categories are a great way to keep your social media content organized.
How to add a new Category in MeetEdgar
Click on Categories from the top menu and then click on the button to add a new category.
Give your category a name. You can specify whether or not you want it to be included in random scheduled spots and then click save.
From the category page you can see how many total updates you have in that category, the number of time slots scheduled for that category and how many random time slots that category is included in.
How to assign a category to your post
To schedule out a social media post click on the button – Add New Content.
Under the category section click on the drop down menu to select your category.
Easily plan out your content using categories
Category based scheduling also makes it easy to plan out your schedule. For each social media platform you should decide how often you want to schedule out a post. For example, if you want to post to Facebook once per day, 6 days a week you can then plan out your content using your categories. On one day you share an inspirational quote, two days you will link to a blog post, one day share behind the scene photos, one day share a youtube video and finally one day share a promotional offer.
Using categories to plan out your content offers a systematic way for social media content planning. The more systems you have in your business the more efficient you can be.
2. Automatic scheduling of evergreen content
By using category based scheduling, MeetEdgar makes it easy to recycle your evergreen content. Ideally you want to create evergreen content that can be shared again and again. With MeetEdgar you have the option to share your content once or have it be added to your library to recycle it again.
By default the content you add to your library will be evergreen and recycled, but using the advanced scheduling features you can specify whether you only want to retire a post after one time or you can specify to stop sharing a post after a certain date.
These advanced features can be useful for seasonal content or time sensitive promotional offers.
How to add a recurring time slot to your schedule
From the main menu click on Schedule.
To add a time slot click on the button – Add time slot.
From here you can specify the social media platform, assign a category, specify the time and day or multiple days of the week.
After you have created the new time slot you will see it added to your schedule.
You can even add a random recurring timeslot to your schedule. When you go to choose the category you can specify random instead. MeetEdgar will randomly share posts from any of the categories that you have allowed for random time slots. When you add a random time slot it will show up in grey on your schedule.
3. Import Unlimited Content feeds for quick scheduling
In MeetEdgar you have the ability to import an RSS feed and MeetEdgar will automatically display the most recent content from that feed. You can set it to either automatically add that content to your library or set it for pending approval so you can then review it later.
There are two ways to use Content feeds:
- Connect your blog and YouTube Channel: With your own content you can set it to automatically be added to your content queue. This saves you time because any new content you create whether it be for your website or your YouTube channel, MeetEdgar can automatically create a post and have it shared to your various social media platforms. No need to do this directly. It can work on auto pilot.
- Connect to 3rd party content and industry blogs: Keep your audience in the know with the latest news and content related to your industry. Add various websites from your niche that writes content your audience would enjoy. Since this content is from a 3rd party source you can set it to require approval before the content is added to your library. Set a regular time to check your feed and easily accept or reject it. This offers an easy solution on finding relevant articles to share with your audience.
How to import an RSS feed in MeetEdgar
From the top menu click on Import. From this page you can Import content by adding a URL or you can bulk upload content from a .csv file.
To add the RSS feed copy and paste your website URL in the field provided.
Next, assign a category. In this case if it is your website you would assign it to your blog posts. If it is a third party website you may categorize it under recommended reads.
Specify whether or not you want to import it directly to your library or to a pending queue for you to manually accept or reject it. If it is your own content you can have it go directly to your library, but for 3rd party content I would recommend manually reviewing it before sharing to social media.
Under advanced settings you can specify whether you want to only use it once and then select the social media platforms. MeetEdgar gives the disclaimer that this feature can’t be used with Pinterest or Instagram because they require a photo to post. Using the RSS feed importer it only pulls in a link so it can select your Facebook, LinkedIn and one Twitter profile to share this content.
Note: Even with my own content I have it going to pending for review because when it comes to posting to Facebook they require you to manually enter your content. Meaning that any post created from an RSS feed needs to be reviewed first before you can post it to Facebook.
How to review pending content from your RSS import and add it to your library
From the top menu click on Library. You will see the tab for pending content, which will display a number next to it if you have any content that needs review.
MeetEdgar gives you the ability to bulk approve or reject the content.
In the left hand column you will see filter options. As I mentioned before you need to manually edit any post that you want to schedule out to Facebook. Under Social Account use the drop down menu to select Facebook.
Click on the edit button for one of the posts. You will notice a yellow box around the Facebook section. MeetEdgar states that Facebook doesn’t allow automatic posting of content from a feed. Here you can copy and paste the text directly into the box and add any additional text you want for your post.
Once you are done editing your post you have a number of options. You can either save and approve; save and leave pending; approve, send now and save; or approve, schedule send and save.
How to manage your content feeds
From the import page you can click on Manage RSS feeds. You will see a list of your feeds, what accounts they are connected to, their import status, and assigned category. When you click on the drop down arrow you can choose to edit, delete, or import now.
4. Advanced Filters to sort through your content library
Staying organized is a huge priority and MeetEdgar makes it easy to sort through your entire content library using their powerful filters.
How to use Filters in MeetEdgar
From the main menu click on the Library. In the left hand column you will notice all of the different available filters.
You can filter by:
- Category
- Social Network
- Social Account
- RSS Source
- Use Once
- Has Publishable Variations
- Date Created
One way I use filters is if I want to find a specific piece of content that I want to share again. I will type in the search bar the piece of content I am looking for and then I will use the filter for Social account to narrow down my library of content.
One example is I have written a review post for the Genius Blogger’s toolkit that only goes on sale 2-3 times a year. In this case I can filter through my library to find all the content I have created for that post and schedule it out directly whenever it goes on sale.
You can also use filters in your Queue. Select Queue from the top menu. From here you can use a filter to look at a specific social account and see what content will be posted over the next week. It is always a good idea to spot check your Queue and make sure the right content is going out.
From here you can pause your queue and edit your post. When you click on the double arrow icon you choose to skip that post and it will be removed from your current queue.
5. Schedule from anywhere on the web using the MeetEdgar Chrome Extension or Bookmarklet
MeetEdgar makes it easy to share from anywhere on the web using the MeetEdgar Chrome extension / Bookmarklet tool.
How to use the MeetEdgar Chrome extension
From the Google Chrome Web store you can install the MeetEdgar extension.
After you have installed it from your bookmark bar you will notice Edgar the blue octopus icon.
When you have found a post that you want to share click on the MeetEdgar bookmarklet icon and it will bring up the scheduling options.
Select the social media accounts, assign a category, designate whether you only want to use it once and then from here you can save and add it to your library, schedule it out immediately or schedule it out for a later date.
6. Make your content go further with Variations
This feature is especially helpful for Twitter which doesn’t allow you to post the exact same thing twice.
You can continue to share the same post on Twitter, but you need to change up the wording in your post. You can either manually add a variation or you can use MeetEdgar’s feature to automatically pull text from your post as a quote to use for a post.
Once the variations are generated you can choose to accept, modify or delete them.
From your library you can see how many variations you have for a post and it will designate whether they have been shared and already used and expired for Twitter.
